Old detached garages eventually reach a point where they cost more to repair than they are worth. The foundation is cracked, the roof sags, the doors don't work, and the structure has become a liability rather than an asset. Whether you are clearing the way for a new garage, reclaiming yard space, or removing a structure that has become unsafe, garage demolition is a bigger job than most people realize. A1 Junk Removal and Tree Service handles garage demolition across the Omaha metro. We tear down the structure, remove the foundation if needed, and haul away every piece of debris.
We've torn down single-car garages in Benson, two-car detached garages in Millard, old carports in Ralston, and dilapidated outbuildings across the metro. Wood frame, concrete block, metal — we handle all construction types. If the structure needs to come down, we have the equipment and the crew to do it.
What We Demolish
Detached Garage Demolition
Single-car and two-car detached garages built from wood, concrete block, or metal. We tear down the structure completely — walls, roof, doors, and framing. Detached garages are the most common demolition project we handle.
Carport Removal
Metal carports, wood carports, and lean-to structures. These are typically faster to remove than enclosed garages but still require proper teardown and hauling. We remove the structure and any anchoring system.
Outbuilding Demolition
Workshops, storage buildings, old barns, and other outbuildings. If it's a structure on your property that needs to come down, we can handle it. Larger structures may require multiple days.
Garage Foundation Removal
Concrete slab foundations, block foundations, and footings. After the structure is down, we can break up and haul away the foundation. This leaves your lot completely clear and ready for new construction or landscaping.
Garage Contents Removal
Most garages are packed with decades of accumulated stuff. We can clear out all the contents before demolition — tools, equipment, storage, chemicals, and everything else. See our garage cleanout page for details.
Driveway and Approach Removal
If the old driveway or approach connected to the garage also needs to go, we can break up and haul away the concrete. See our concrete removal page for more information.

How Garage Demolition Works
Garage demolition starts with disconnecting any utilities — electrical, water, or gas lines that may run to the structure. This needs to be done by licensed professionals before we begin. Once utilities are disconnected, we start by stripping the interior, then removing the roof, walls, and finally the foundation.
We use a combination of hand tools and equipment depending on the size and construction of the garage. Wood-frame garages come apart with reciprocating saws, pry bars, and sledgehammers. Concrete block structures require more equipment. All debris gets loaded onto our trucks and trailers and hauled to appropriate disposal facilities. A typical single-car garage demolition takes one day. Two-car garages and structures with concrete foundations may take longer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to demolish a garage?
In most Omaha metro jurisdictions, yes. Detached garages typically require a demolition permit. We recommend checking with your local building department before scheduling. We can proceed as soon as you have the permit in hand.
Can you demolish an attached garage?
We can handle the demolition portion of an attached garage, but the connection point to the house requires special attention to maintain the structural integrity of your home. We recommend having a contractor assess the connection before we begin.
What about the concrete slab?
We can break up and haul away the concrete slab foundation after the structure is down. This is priced separately since it requires additional equipment and hauling. Many customers choose to leave the slab for a patio or future use.
How much does garage demolition cost?
Pricing depends on the size, construction material, and whether the foundation needs removal. A small single-car wood-frame garage is on the lower end. A large two-car concrete block garage with slab removal is on the higher end. We provide a firm quote after an on-site assessment.
