Decks and patios take a beating from Nebraska weather. After years of sun, rain, snow, and freeze-thaw cycles, wood decks start to rot, boards become unsafe, railings loosen, and the whole structure becomes more of a hazard than an outdoor living space. Concrete patios crack, heave, and settle unevenly. When repair no longer makes sense, demolition is the answer. A1 Junk Removal and Tree Service handles deck and patio demolition across the Omaha metro. We tear out the old structure, remove the posts and footings, and haul away every piece.
We've torn down two-story decks in Elkhorn, removed crumbling concrete patios in Bellevue, dismantled composite decks in Papillion, and pulled out old pergolas and gazebos across the metro. Ground-level or elevated, wood or concrete, small or large — we handle it all.
What We Remove
Wood Deck Demolition
Pressure-treated lumber, cedar, and redwood decks. We remove the decking boards, railings, stairs, framing, posts, and concrete footings. Old wood decks often have hidden rot in the framing and posts — we tear it all out completely.
Composite Deck Removal
Trex, TimberTech, and other composite decking materials. Composite decks are disassembled differently than wood — the boards are typically fastened with hidden clips. We remove everything including the underlying wood framing.
Concrete Patio Removal
Poured concrete, stamped concrete, and concrete paver patios. We break up the concrete with equipment, load it onto our trucks, and haul it away. Concrete is heavy — a typical patio generates several tons of debris.
Brick and Paver Patio Removal
Brick patios, paver patios, flagstone patios, and the sand or gravel base beneath them. We pull up the pavers, remove the base material, and leave the area ready for new landscaping or a new patio.
Pergola and Gazebo Removal
Wood pergolas, vinyl pergolas, metal gazebos, and arbors. We disassemble or demolish the structure, remove the posts and footings, and haul everything away.
Post and Footing Removal
Deck posts are typically set in concrete footings below ground level. We dig out the footings, remove the concrete, and fill the holes. This ensures a completely clean removal with no buried concrete left behind.

How Deck and Patio Demolition Works
For deck demolition, we start at the top and work down — railings and decking boards first, then stairs, then framing and joists, and finally the posts and footings. This keeps the structure stable while we work and prevents sections from collapsing unexpectedly. We use reciprocating saws, pry bars, and impact drivers to disassemble the deck efficiently.
For concrete patio demolition, we use jackhammers and concrete saws to break the slab into manageable pieces, then load them onto our trucks. Concrete is extremely heavy, so hauling capacity is a major factor in pricing. All debris from both deck and patio demolitions gets hauled to appropriate disposal facilities. We finish by cleaning and raking the area so your yard looks good when we leave.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does deck demolition take?
A standard single-level deck takes 4-8 hours. Two-story decks, very large decks, or decks with deep concrete footings take longer — usually a full day. We'll give you a time estimate along with your price quote.
Can you remove just part of a deck?
Yes. We do partial deck demolition all the time. Remove the upper level but keep the lower. Take out the stairs but leave the main platform. Remove a section to make room for an addition. You tell us what goes and what stays.
What about the holes left by post footings?
We dig out the concrete footings and fill the holes with dirt. The area will settle slightly over time, so you may need to add a bit more fill later. If you want the holes filled with gravel or compacted fill instead, just let us know.
Do you remove hot tubs from decks?
Yes. We can remove hot tubs as part of a deck demolition project. Hot tubs are heavy and awkward, but we have the crew and equipment to handle them. See our hot tub removal page for details.
