STUMP GRINDING IN OMAHA
Fast Stump Removal So You Can Use Your Yard Again
That stump in the yard isn't going anywhere on its own. It'll sit there for years — collecting ants, tripping people, and making it impossible to mow a straight line.
A1 Junk Removal and Tree Service grinds stumps across the Omaha metro area. We bring the grinder to you, take the stump down below grade, and clean up the grindings. When we're done, you can fill the spot with topsoil and seed, plant something new, or just enjoy having your yard back.
How Stump Grinding Works
We use a commercial stump grinder — a machine with a rotating carbide-tipped wheel that chews through the stump and the major surface roots. We grind the stump down 6 to 12 inches below the surface, depending on what you plan to do with the area.
If you're planting a new tree in the same spot, we go deeper. If you just want to lay sod or seed over it, standard depth is fine. The grinding produces a pile of wood chips mixed with soil — we can spread those chips in your garden beds, haul them away, or leave them in a pile for you to use however you want.

Why Not Just Leave the Stump?
Stumps attract termites, carpenter ants, and other wood-boring insects. If the stump is close to your house, those insects don't stay in the stump — they move to the structure. Stumps also sprout new growth. You'll spend every summer cutting back shoots that keep coming back from the roots.
And then there's the practical side. Stumps are tripping hazards, they make mowing a pain, and they kill the look of an otherwise clean yard. Grinding is a one-time fix that eliminates all of those problems.
What We Can Grind
Fresh Stumps
Just had a tree taken down? We can grind the stump the same day as the tree removal in most cases.
Old Stumps
Stumps that have been sitting in the yard for years. Even partially rotted stumps grind out just fine — sometimes faster than fresh ones.
Multiple Stumps
Got a yard full of stumps from a storm or a clearing project? We handle multiple stumps in one visit and price accordingly — the more stumps, the better the per-stump rate.
Large Stumps
Cottonwood and oak stumps that are 3 feet across or more. Our commercial grinder handles stumps of any size — it just takes a little longer on the big ones.
After the Grind
Once the stump is ground out, you're left with a shallow depression filled with wood chips and soil. Most homeowners fill the hole with topsoil, tamp it down, and seed or sod over it. Within a season, you won't even know a tree was there.
If you want to plant a new tree in the same spot, we recommend waiting a season and amending the soil. The wood chips break down over time and can temporarily rob nitrogen from the soil as they decompose. We can advise on the best approach based on what you're planning.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does stump grinding cost in Omaha?
It depends on the size of the stump and how many you have. Small stumps start around $75-100. Larger stumps cost more based on diameter. We give free estimates and offer better rates when you have multiple stumps.
How deep do you grind?
We grind 6 to 12 inches below grade as standard. If you're replanting in the same spot, we can go deeper. Just let us know what your plans are and we'll adjust.
Can you grind a stump near a fence or foundation?
In most cases, yes. Our grinder can get into tight spots. If there's a concern about underground utilities, we'll call 811 before we start to make sure everything is clear.
What happens to the roots after grinding?
The surface roots get ground along with the stump. The remaining roots underground will decay naturally over time. They won't send up new shoots once the stump is gone.
